A misspelled name, a mistyped passport number or a wrong date on your Vietnam eVisa can cause trouble at airline check-in or at the immigration counter. The good news is that most mistakes can be fixed if you act early. This guide explains which errors matter most, what to do step by step, and how much time you realistically need before your flight.
Quick answer: can you edit a Vietnam eVisa?
It depends on when you notice the mistake.
- While your application is still processing: if the official portal emails you about an error, you can normally correct it through the same page you use to track your application.
- After the eVisa has been issued: travelers commonly report that the practical fix is to submit a new application with the correct details, which means waiting for a new approval.
Rules and portal behavior can change, so always confirm on the official portal at evisa.gov.vn. We are a private assistance service and are not affiliated with the Government of Vietnam.
Which eVisa mistakes matter most?
Immigration systems and airlines compare your eVisa with your passport. These are the details to check first.
Name that does not match your passport
Enter your name exactly as it appears on the machine-readable line at the bottom of your passport photo page, not the name you use day to day. Middle names, maiden names and passports that show only a given name are the most common sources of confusion.
Wrong passport number
One wrong character is enough. Watch for the letter O and the number 0, and for digits that were swapped when typing. Also make sure you used your current passport, not an old one.
Wrong date of birth, passport expiry or travel dates
Dates are entered as day, month, year. A swapped day and month, or an arrival date that does not match your plans, can make the visa unusable. Your passport should also be valid for at least six months from the date you enter Vietnam.
Wrong entry point
The place of entry cannot normally be changed after you submit the application, so choose the airport or border gate you will actually use.
What to do now: step by step
- Compare your eVisa with your passport. Check name, date of birth, passport number, expiry date, nationality and entry dates, character by character.
- Check your application status on the official portal using your registration code, email and date of birth.
- If the application is still processing, follow the portal's instructions to correct the details it flags.
- If the eVisa is already issued with an error, prepare a new application with the correct information. Travelers often report paying the government fee again, so check the current rules before you pay.
- Ask your airline what they will accept at check-in. Policies differ, and we cannot promise how a specific airline will treat a minor mismatch.
- Do not travel until the issue is resolved. A visa that does not match your passport can lead to being refused boarding or entry.
How much time do you need?
Standard processing is typically 3 to 5 working days, and it can take up to 7 to 10 working days during peak seasons and public holidays. If your flight is within a few days, plan for urgent options rather than waiting.
Our urgent Vietnam eVisa options have delivery targets from 1 hour (weekday cut-off times apply) to 3 working days. These are targets, not guarantees, and approval is always decided by Vietnamese immigration authorities. You can compare costs on the Vietnam eVisa prices page.
Was your application rejected instead?
A rejection is usually caused by one fixable detail. The most common ones are:
- A name or passport number that does not match the passport.
- A scan of the passport photo page that is cropped, blurry or has corners missing.
- A portrait photo that does not meet the requirements.
- A passport with less than six months of validity.
- Missing or inconsistent information in the form.
Some guides report that there is no mandatory waiting period before you reapply, but confirm this on the official portal. Correct the cause, check every field against your passport, and submit a new application. Read our guide to Vietnam eVisa requirements before you resubmit.
How to avoid mistakes next time
- Copy your name from the machine-readable line of your passport.
- Read your passport number twice, watching for O and 0.
- Check that your passport is valid for at least six months from your entry date.
- Use the day, month, year date format.
- Scan the whole photo page with all four corners visible.
- Save your registration code and confirmation emails.
- Review everything again before you pay.

Frequently asked questions
Can I edit my Vietnam eVisa after it is issued?
Usually not by yourself. If the portal flagged an error during processing you can correct it there, but for an issued eVisa with wrong details, the common route is a new application with the correct information. Confirm the current rules on the official portal.
What if my name is spelled slightly differently on my eVisa?
Even small differences can cause problems at check-in or at immigration, especially with middle names. Contact your airline and consider correcting the visa before you travel.
Do I have to pay again if I submit a new application?
A new application normally means a new government fee, based on what travelers report. Check the fee shown on the official portal before paying.
Can I still fly with a small mistake on my eVisa?
We recommend not traveling until the mismatch is checked and resolved. Airlines and border officers decide at their discretion, and we cannot promise they will accept a visa that differs from your passport.
How long does a corrected eVisa take?
It follows the normal processing time, typically 3 to 5 working days and up to 7 to 10 in busy periods. If you are short on time, ask about urgent options as early as possible.
